What is kiss pitch?

KissPitch 3.0 runs on what’s best described as the agency model: our mentors are available the same way a literary agent is available: either open or closed to queries. Mentors create their own wish lists, provide their own submission instructions, and select mentees from their submission pool.

Mentees research, evaluate, and query prospective mentors directly—much as you would when querying any agent. FridayKiss will provide a list of mentors who are currently open to mentees; you do your due diligence and query each mentor based on their wish lists and following their individual submission instructions.

All communications happen directly between prospective mentees and mentors—no forms to fill out unless that’s how the prospective mentor prefers to be contacted. No contest to enter, and no worries about being finished on time to participate in the program.

ABOUT

MEET kisspitch 3.0

KissPitch 3.0 does not run on a schedule.
  • You’re free to query any mentor/mentoring team working with your subgenre and age range at any time.
  • If a mentor is marked OPEN, that means they’re accepting queries. If they’re CLOSED, you’ll have to wait (or choose someone else).
  • You may query multiple mentors at the same time.
  • If you receive multiple offers from mentors, you pick the one you feel is the best fit, and let the others know you’ll be working with someone else.
  • This mentorship opportunity is ongoing—around the clock, around the calendar. Note that the list of available mentors is subject to change based on availability.

KissPitch 3.0 needs mentees. Members of the FridayKiss community are eligible as mentees if they meet these criteria:
  • You are unagented
  • You have a completed manuscript that’s as polished as you can make it. Please don’t query with an unfinished manuscript—our mentors are here to help you finesse your book, not to co-author it.
  • You’ve got a query letter and aren’t afraid to use it
  • You have a strong desire to learn from a mentor, take instruction and suggestions well, and are open to letting another writer help you craft your work in positive ways.

ABOUT

KissPitch 3.0 mentees should expect help in the following areas:
  • Polishing/editing/advising on a completed manuscript
  • Query letters
  • Synopsis writing
  • Resources for agent querying OR for self-publishing (or both)

What can a mentee expect?

02

mentors

  • Approach mentors as industry professionals, even when you are friends.
  • Comply with each mentor’s posted submission requirements. If a mentor asks for a query letter only, send a query letter only. Query + synopsis? Send that. Query + synopsis + pages? You get the idea—if you can’t follow their instructions, you’re not ready. Note that you can always get help with query letters in the Friday Kiss Query group!
  • Behave professionally within the mentor/mentee relationship. That doesn’t mean don’t have fun (what would be the point!), but do take all mentor suggestions into consideration, talk things over with your mentor, complete the assigned tasks, and remember that mentors are volunteering their time to help you.

"The connections I made are incredible. There's nothing like going through the querying process together to bond writers."

Mentee testimonials

-Melissa Poettcker, YA Romantic Fantasy mentee

I applied to work with two bestselling authors and somehow managed to snag them both. These women are amazing editors and spent an incredible amount of time pouring over my story and lifting me up with encouragement. When I signed with my agent, they were there walking me through it. My book is what it is today because of them, but the support and friendship that's come from it has meant just as much to me."

"I had a fantastic experience.
